Steve Lawler and Darius Syrossion have just released a VIVa Warriors compilation CD to accompany their summer residency and you can check out a sneak peak below...as well we caught up with Steve Lawler and he shared a bit of insight into his label VIVa Music and what we can expect from the VIVa Warriors this summer!
Your new residency VIVa Warriors pays homage to the 1979 cult classic, 'The Warriors'...What made you choose that particular film and what elements can we expect to see coming to life this summer?
It was actually the idea of my tour manager, Matt Kilcullen. He brought it up in a team meeting and everyone instantly fell in love with the idea for many reasons. No one has done that before in Ibiza, themed there night around an iconic movie. The idea of the film is people of the night, the rebellious side to the youth generation of the time, it's just a classics film and one that many people know. We get the chance to dress up and have some fun with it because after all that is what this is all about, having fun having a party, but doing it with integrity and artistic impression.
Why did you choose Sankeys Ibiza for your residency?
Sankeys is a perfect venue for us, it's intimate but not small with an amazing sound, and what you get with a venue like that is a VIBE and that's all I wanted. It's a club, not a super club. Ibiza has many super clubs, VIP clubs and because of that I wanted the opposite. For me the best party on the island is Circo loco at DC10. It's somewhere I have always supported and enjoyed and there is definitely room in ibiza for another underground venue, especially now. And that's what this is, and that's why I chose it, because it’s an underground venue where we can throw a 'PARTY’.
What do you enjoy most being the head of a record label?
It's a team effort, there is so much work involved in running a record label if you want to do it properly. I personally enjoy seeing our team together all loving what we do. Working together of course there are good days and there are bad days, but when you work on a project and you all get together and get creative and see something come together that you have worked on, that's a huge reward. Seeing our artists develop is a personal reward for me.
What do you have upcoming with VIVa Music this summer we should know about?
There are several releases lined up, next one coming from the burgeoning new talent that is 'cuartero', he has done us a really nice 5 track EP. We have a rather tasty release coming up from the new Romanian who is making lots of noise 'fASTER’.
And we're currently working on our big 100th release titled ‘Familia’, which is an EP from the VIVa MUSiC artists including myself, Livio & Roby, Darius Syrossian, Detlef, Julian Perez, fASTER, Leon, and our female Danish duo ANEK. And last but not least, we are just about to release our summer mix cd titled ‘VIVa Warriors’, mixed by Darius Syrossian and myself.
