This month SCREEN FROM BARCELONA will present a lot of exciting projects and events involving contemporary art. Thanks to partnerships with leading international agents, the platform has been able to generate projects such as SCREEN Festival and LOOP. These two events are held annually in the spring but SCREEN FROM BARCELONA remains active all the year round.
The LOOP Fair will be held on the 31th of May to the 2nd of June (open to the public from on the 1st and 2nd of June from 4 to 9 pm ) and is a fair exclusively focused on video art. This year LOOP celebrates the 10th edition and is making an extra effort to present significant and fresh projects.
It is the LOOP committee that critically selects the participating galleries. There are about 40-50 international galleries invited every year, from London to Tokyo, who showcase their artists' projects on this professional platform. There will be exhibitions, workshops, discussions and other activities within the framework of LOOP.
Every year the LOOP awards appoint the most outstanding artist and gallery proposal, and they will be chosen by a jury of experts. Three prizes are rewarded in the following categories;
Catalonia Hotels award - To the best work.
Screen Projects Loop award - To the best gallery proposal.
Epson award - To the second best gallery proposal.
This year the curated section will be devoted to Latin American artists and will be hosted by the professional independent curator and art critic Paula Alzugaray. She has handpicked a few artists and galleries to portray the relation between sex/violence/affectivity/criminality in the territory.
In parallel to the LOOP Fair, a discussion forum about moving image production in contemporary art will be starting the 30th May and remaining until 2nd June.
The discussion will be held at the forum at MACBA and and the Loop fair at the Hotel Catalonia Ramblas.
